BA strike affects Manchester Airport
22nd March 2010
Up to 500 passengers flying from Manchester Airport stand to be affected by the British Airways strike. Six BA flights from Manchester to Heathrow have been cancelled - leaving just four on Saturday and six on Sunday.
BA no longer operates direct long haul flights from Manchester and only flies to Gatwick and Heathrow. Flights to Gatwick have not been affected.
The three-day cabin crew walkout is over pay and working conditions.
Talks collapsed
A Manchester Airport spokesman said that passengers should check with BA before arriving at the airport.
He said most would have been booked on another flight and the strike was having a relatively small impact on the airport.
Talks between the airline and the Unite union, which represents the crew, collapsed on Friday.
A further four days of action are set to begin on 27 March, although BA has said this weekend's action could disrupt flights into next week as well.
A total of 1,100 BA flights out of the 1,950 scheduled to operate, mainly out of Heathrow, will be cancelled.
