Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver gives to charity shop
21st November 2009
Chef Jamie Oliver and television presenter Lauren Laverne are among the celebrities who donated items to a new charity shop due to open in Edinburgh. It is the first permanent charity shop designed by retail expert Mary Portas, whose TV show explored how charities could overhaul their shops.
Retail expert Mary Portas first worked with Save the Children when she helped revamp their shops for her series.
She is now setting up some of her own, calling on celebrity friends to help.
The store in Stockbridge which will open later is the first of five Portas plans across the UK.
The retailer hopes that shoppers will not only buy but also bring in new stock.
A temporary shop Portas established in a shopping centre in London raised more than £100,000 for Save the Children in just three weeks.
