Kaiser Chief Ticket Chaos as Firm Goes Bust

20th May 2008

A leading ticket company that has been selling tickets to this Saturday's Kaiser Chiefs homecoming concert has gone bust leaving some fans without the tickets they paid for.

The band will be performing at Leeds United’s Ellend Road ground this weekend and a crowd of around 35,000 is expected to watch them play their singles such as I predict a Riot and Ruby.

The ticket firm involved in this scandal is the London Ticket Shop. The firm, which is registered in Hungary and London, sold tickets to this gig via the internet when they went on sale last year.

Manchester-based SJM Concerts are promoting the gig and handling the overall ticket sales. A spokesperson said: “We don't sell tickets to them or any other secondary agent so we have no idea how many they had – our guess is they possibly had none and were trading fraudulently.”

One fan from Leeds paid £89 for a pair of tickets to the gig at the beginning of December and has still not received them. Samantha Greenwood paid £35 each for the tickets, as well as an additional £19 booking fee. She bought the tickets as a belated 40th birthday present to herself, but now she probably won’t be able to attend the gig.

Samantha said: “I did it on the internet. We bought them on December 5. I was 40 in April and it was part of my 40th birthday celebrations. There will be young kids who have saved up for this. It is not fair. I am absolutely devastated to find out just a week before. My friend is 46 and she has never been to a pop concert in her life and was really looking forward to it. I don't know how many other people are affected by it.”

The London Ticket Shop is not contactable. An insolvency petition was filed in the High Court of Justice in London on 1st February and the firm was later wound up on 19th March. The official receiver has now been called in, although they have said that it is unlikely that fans will receive either their tickets or their money back.

Anybody who has paid for tickets through the firm should contact the Official Receiver or email piuor@insolvency.gsi.gov.uk to receive more information.
