Leeds United still hope to sign Paul Dickov

18th February 2010

Leeds United still hope to sign former Scotland striker Paul Dickov despite a move for him being blocked by Fifa. A player can represent a maximum of two clubs in one season in the same country and the 37-year-old free agent has already played for Leicester and Derby.

United boss Simon Grayson told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "We are trying to investigate a way round it.

"I won't say it will definitely happen but he looked fit and lively in training," Grayson added.

Dickov trained with the Leeds squad last week and will return for a second time on Wednesday or Thursday after a short spell with MLS side Toronto FC in their training camp in Florida.

Grayson said: "Dickov has gone to America and he will have a look but he will be back with us on Wednesday or Thursday.

"We can then see where we are with Fifa and Uefa. He is a player I like - he has played for me before and I want competition for places.

"If Paul signs for us, we would be his third club of the season and the problem is a player can only appear for two clubs within a certain window. "

Dickov began the season at Leicester City but joined Derby County on loan until January before being released from his contract by mutual consent.

He began his career as a trainee at Arsenal and played under Grayson during a loan at Blackpool in 2008.

Dickov has made over 400 appearances in his career, including 10 international caps for Scotland.

Yeovil were blocked from signing winger Arron Davies this year because he had played for Nottingham Forest and Brighton, but they found a loophole to recruit him.
