Passive Porn

21st September 2008

Despite claims to the contrary, there is no connection between pornography and violence. Certain Government Departments in England have spent hundreds of thousands of pounds to realize this, money that could've been better spent in areas of genuine need. England is not alone though, many countries around the world have carried out similar extensive investigations, only to reach the same verdict. A well-known report by America's Commission on Obscenity and Pornography published in the late 1960's concludes that pornography does no harm whatsoever.

It is doubtful that anyone determined to spend the rest of their days protesting against pornography has enjoyed a healthy and fulfilling sex life, their warped and narrow-minded views would've prevented that. I'm always wary of people who protest too much and a complete aversion to something normally means that the person has something to hide. To quote the most famous psychologist of all time - Freud - and a few of his respected colleagues - a mind which regards sex as sinful is a sick mind.

There was an article in a local newspaper a few months back that had me giggling for hours. Apparently an elderly couple had bought a DVD from a large supermarket chain thinking it was some 1950's classic, but when they got home and pushed play, discovered to their absolute horror that it was a pornographic movie! The wife said and I quote : "We watched it all the way to the end and couldn't believe what we were seeing. It was disgusting!". If they had really been so offended, how come they didn't switch it off after the first few scenes?

I personally find blue movies rather amusing and think that most of the time they should be taken with a pinch of salt. A lot of people (especially men) pick up strange ideas and misconceptions from watching blue movies and don't seem to realise that they are just about as realistic as a James Bond film. Pornos are probably responsible for a lot of men developing complexes about the size of their penis as well as how long they're supposed to perform for. In the real world, the average size of a man's penis is about 5 - 6 inches and most men only last about 5 - 10 minutes. Well-endowed porno stars who heroically pound away at their sexual partners for hours on end can normally thank careful editing, drugs or the fact that it's his fifth sexual act of the day.

No matter what your personal views about pornography are though, people need to realise that there's a huge difference between the words pornographic and erotic! You can't tar every book or movie that shows a bit of flesh with the same brush! That would be like saying that all poetry books or horror movies are the same. Some blue movies actually have a good story line and are tasteful and well-filmed, whereas others are badly made, offensive or just plain shocking. Each one is different, just like everything else in the world.

As consenting adults we should be able to watch or read anything we fancy and if something can spice up your life and maybe even save a marriage or two, it can't be all bad!
