Rail passengers in Birmingham facing long delays

Hundreds of rail passengers have been affected by signalling problems which have caused cancellations and diversions in Birmingham. Network Rail said an emergency train timetable had been put in place to cope with the problems affecting services to and from New Street station.
A spokeswoman said engineers were working hard but services are likely to be affected throughout the evening.
Rail replacement bus services were taking people to other stations.
Some passengers said they had been delayed for more than two hours at New Street station.
People travelling to London, the east of England and Manchester were among those affected.
Network Rail said it hoped to the have problems fixed by Friday evening and rail services were expected to return to normal on Saturday.
