24th November 2009

A final batch of tickets for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year event in Sheffield have been made available. The show, which will take place on 13 December, will be the biggest yet with about 11,000 people in attendance.

The two-hour spectacular will be shown live on BBC1 from 1900-2100 GMT and will once again be hosted by Sue Barker, Gary Lineker and Jake Humphrey.

Tickets can be booked by calling the box office on 0114 256 5656 or through the Arena at www. sheffieldarena. co. uk

It is the first time the event will have been held in Yorkshire and the fourth time it has been hosted outside London during its 56-year history.

Carl Doran, editor of Sports Personality of the Year said: "After such a fantastic year of sport this year's event promises to be a special celebration.

"People seem genuinely excited about seeing the show close up and I think that's why the first allocation of tickets sold out so quickly. "

Barbara Slater, director of BBC Sport, said: "The reaction of viewers and those members of the public who have been able to attend the event in the last three years has been fantastic and we hope this year in Sheffield will continue that trend.

"It's been another great year of sport and the event promises to be another show to remember.

"It's a tremendous cast list and a great experience for the audience in the venue, and we hope this year will be a classic. "

This year has been another fantastic year with Jenson Button being crowned Formula One world champion, David Haye winning the WBA heavyweight championship of the world, England's cricketers regaining the Ashes and their female counterparts clinching a clean sweep in their equivalent series, the World Cup and the World Twenty20.

There was also a first Irish Grand Slam in 61 years in this year's Six Nations, a fantastic World Athletics Championships with golds for Jessica Ennis and Phillips Idowu, Andy Murray reaching number two in the world, and Manchester United taking yet another Premier League title.

The event will be attended by former winners of the main award and many of the biggest names from the world of sport.

The awards presented on the night will include:
