The Legends Of Sheffield United

Jimmy Dunne was born in 1905 and remains a prominent fixture in Sheffield United's record books. During 1930-31 he scored 41 league goals and 50 in all competitions. The following season he scored 12 times in consecutive games.
As well as being a Sheffield United fan Len Badger also played over 500 appearances for the club. He was an accomplished right back and was capped by England but missed out on the senior level.
Billy Gillespie was an Irish International midfielder and played over 550 games for United in a career of 20 years. In 1915 Billy missed out on playing in the FA Cup final due to a broken leg. However he captained the team during 1925 FA Cup win at Wembley against Cardiff.
Harry Johnson is Sheffield United's record holding goal scorer and helped the team reach the FA CUP semi-final in 1993 and 1998. He was the son of former United player 'Old Harry' Johnson who was an international right half. He went on to play for the Republic of Ireland.
Euphraim Dodds was born in Scotland and was signed at the tender age of 18. He was nicknamed 'jock' and was the leading scorer for 5 consecutive seasons. During that time he scored 128 goals in only 203 games.
Colin Morris played for United during the 1980's and was known for scoring and missing more penalties than any other player. His son Lee Morris followed in his footsteps and played for United in the 1990's.
Ernest Needham was nicknamed the 'Nudger' and was the first Blade to captain the England Squad.
The leader of appearances for United is Joe Shaw with over 770 games between 1948 and 1966. He started out playing wing-half, but changed to centre half as the new position suited his style.
Paul Stanclife was a central defender and also captained Sheffield United. He played 278 games in the league for the club.
Alan Woodward born in 1946 was a local lad and is the leading post-war scorer. He made 536 appearances for United, but it is said he missed out on playing international as he had a very bad temper.
