The Perfect Body
29th August 2008
By MELANY KARRMICHAEL
Why do most women hate their bodies? Why do they think their husbands will be off like a shot if they see a prettier woman at the gym? Spending the day on the beach should be a fantastic experience for any woman, but it’s not. All we can think of is how flabby our arms are, whether our boobs look too small or our tummies too big.
Men don’t seem to suffer from these insecurities. They stride confidently onto the sand with their beer bellies, hairy backs and skimpy Speedos without a care in the world. The thought that their wives might be fantasizing about running off with the sexy young lifeguard or at the very least admiring his well-toned body doesn’t even cross their minds.
We probably take more notice than our hubbies when a pretty young girl strolls by in a skimpy tanga and immediately whirl around to see if he’s looking. If he isn’t, we’re still not happy and will nudge him until he does so that we can ask a question he’ll never give an honest answer to like : “Do you find her attractive?” or “Is she prettier than me?”.
It’s about time that we did something about this strange phenomenon and this is what I suggest. First take a long hard look at your man and then rate him on a scale of 1 to 10. Do the same for yourself and compare the two – I’m sure they’ll be pretty similar. Then remember the Baywatch Babe (a perfect 10!) you saw splashing about in the surf and ask yourself if there’s even a remote chance that she’d want to cuddle up with your snoring sob for the night. No, of course not!
Now undress completely and stand in front of that full-length mirror you’ve been avoiding for years. Don’t immediately start criticizing your figure, just take a good look at yourself. So you’ve got a few stretch marks and your boobs aren’t quite as perky as they used to be, but there’s nothing wrong with that. These are generally caused by pregnancy, which means that they are actually reminders of something wonderful you’ve experienced in your life. Men are always comparing their scars, maybe we should start comparing our stretch marks?
Feeling better? Then focus on the things that you are happy with. Maybe your sparkling blue eyes or your lovely thick hair. Think of ways that you could enhance these features even more before you tackle any bigger problems you may have. This way your confidence will get an immediate boost and will motivate you to continue making improvements. In no time at all you will be perfectly happy with your reflection and might even treat yourself to a new bikini!
